Zombie

2024

I'm interested in exploring themes of identity, spirituality, and the human experience through the lens of Black literature. This piece is inspired by a quote in Zora Neale Hurston’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God” where she speaks of the creation of Man. Origin stories and mythologies are rich with these ideas of a "fall from grace" or an exile from an ideal state. There's something powerful in how these narratives reflect the sense of loss or transformation that comes with stepping away from a divine or sacred origin.
