Maybe, Baby
2022My mother used to do my hair when I was little. When she passed away, I had to learn how to do it on my own. Seemingly overnight, I found myself to be the child and the mother. My final lesson with my mother was to learn how to become a mother to myself. In a lot of ways I identify with both figures in this piece. The larger figure wears a bedazzled “Baby” tee suggesting that she is too, just a baby. However, this figure takes on the more dominant role in the piece. The figure in the baby pink dress is assumed to be the child appears deeply pensive. To me this piece is about the paradoxical nature of adulthood and the way in which we are all children we used to be.
