Chiquita Fountain

2024

The history of American produce is steeped in bloodshed and capitalist greed. The fruits of the land, like the people who cultivate them, are burdened by the dreams of Western colonization—manipulated and exploited. Since 1899, Chiquita Corporation has wielded its power to manipulate the governments of South and Central America and the Caribbean, extracting capital gain at the expense of the land and its native peoples. Fertile soil became a battleground, and native peoples were constricted into tools for profit, their livelihoods and traditions uprooted for the sake of global markets. This legacy of violence, environmental devastation, and cultural erasure serves as a stark reminder of how colonial and corporate greed transform abundance into suffering.
