Fun with Dick & Jane: Pecola’s Adventure
Many of the chapters in Toni Morrison’s novel “The Bluest Eye” begin with quotes from “Fun with Dick and Jane”. The protagonist, Pecola Breedlove, envy’s Jane for her blue eyes and seemingly perfect life. The story of Pecola is deeply sad. She truly wishes for things like love and acceptance, although she is met with intolerance and often violence. By the end of the novel, Pecola is driven to delusion by her own imaginary manifestation of her dream. Pecola is simultaneously the result of pernicious system and blamed for its creation. This is the start of a series that dives into the head of Pecola — She is naturally curious and a little naive. Where will Pecola take us on her adventures as Jane?
