Untitled (Waiting..)

Untitled (Waiting...) is in homage of wig mannequins in Black beauty supply stores. As a child, I remember them lined up in the stores—queued in military order, silent sentinels of style, like guardians of the Black hair experience itself.
Layered with pride, power, and history, hair is a cornerstone of Black and African communities and serves as a living archive of tradition, wealth, and ancestral memory. Our styles and rituals are deeply rooted in lineage and passed down through generations.
What grows naturally from us is sacred. Yet under colonization, it is weaponized, shamed, and stripped of meaning. Today, Black hair is a battleground and a canvas, a site of resistance, creation, and cultural return.
Untitled (Waiting..) is both warrior and queen. Her archetype is ubiquitous in our communities. She is an emblem of survival, sovereignty, and the radical beauty that is inherently ours.
